Welcoming Michiana

About Us

Part of the Welcoming America network of affiliates, Welcoming Michiana seeks to help immigrants to establish lives of purpose and dignity in St. Joseph County, while encouraging the local population to understand the important work of immigrants in the community.

Welcoming Michiana is a key part of the URC’s work in St. Joseph County and in the greater region. Among Welcoming Michiana’s efforts are the following:

  • Reestablishment of a refugee resettlement program in greater South Bend

  • Assisting immigrants to build skills to help them prosper, through Career Pathways

  • Facilitation of international exchanges with organizations that include:

    • Open World Forum

    • Young Leaders of the Americas (YLAI)

  • Assisting communities of faith to embrace the many differences that immigrants and their religious traditions bring to the community as a means of understanding diversity.
